INTRODUCTION
The Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Management (BPA) degree programme is designed to meet the growing demand for qualified Administration and Management employees in various organisations. It is intended for the following groups of people:
School leavers who want to pursue a Public Administration and Management career
Public Administration Full diploma holders or any relevant qualifications who wish to advance their careers;
any eligible person who wishes to pursue a career in Administration and Management.
The BPA degree programme is a ZCAS University Programme offered and administered by ZCAS University. Student registration, teaching and examination take place at ZCAS. In administering the Programme, the University observes internal and external quality assurance standards including the appointment of qualified lecturers to teach the courses.
RATIONALE
The demand for qualified public administrators as professionals has made it necessary to introduce the BPA with Public Administration and Management degree programme in order to raise the standards of Administration in both Public and Private organisation. ZCAS presents an opportunity to produce a product that will help to raise the standard of Administration and Management of organisations in the country and the region.
AIM
The aim of this programme is to equip candidates with knowledge and skills in the fields of public administration to help contribute to raising the standard of managing the public service organisations in the country and the region.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the programme, candidates should be able to:
describe the fundamental theories, concepts, principles and practices of administration and management;
demonstrate critical abilities of planning, decision making, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and judgement as applied to administration and management; and
collect and analyse data that can help in solving challenges faced by organisations.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
To qualify for admission to the BPA degree programme an applicant must have any of the following:
Five credits at ‘O’ Level including English and Mathematics
Diploma in Public Administration
Any relevant three year Human Resources Management diploma from a reputable college or university
At least three ‘A’ level passes including English and Mathematics or equivalent.
Any relevant degree from a recognised institution.
EXEMPTIONS
A student who has, prior to admission to the BPA degree, attended, whether at ZCAS University or elsewhere, courses of instruction and passed examinations equivalent in standard to courses and examinations which form part of the programme of study may, subject to approval, be exempted from attendance of classes and examinations in those courses.
No exemptions are available in respect of third- and fourth-year courses regardless of the candidate’s qualifications.
