INTRODUCTION
The Master’s in Data Science programme (MSc DS) is designed for professionals seeking to expand their knowledge of cutting-edge data science methods and tools. The field of data science has the potential to improve technology, business models, and decision-making across various industries such as manufacturing, transportation, banking, cybersecurity, healthcare, and social care. With the integration of artificial intelligence, data science offers a promising opportunity to enhance these sectors. Upon completion of the Master’s degree in Data Science, students will be able to demonstrate their ability to model large data sets, store and process them using the latest algorithms and techniques, and use modern methods and tools to visually explore data. Students will acquire hands-on experience working with real-world datasets and industry-simulated projects, which will enable them to become proficient in advanced data science methods such as data engineering and deep learning. The medium of instruction for this program is English.
AIM:
The aim of this programme is to train and produce graduates in Data Science and Big Data, who possess a comprehensive understanding of the essential technologies used in data science and business analytics, as well as the critical computer skills and professional expertise required to meet the increasing demand. These graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and practical abilities to tackle complex data challenges and contribute to the development and innovation of various industries.
ADMISSION CRITERIA:
- Passes at credit level (1-5) in at least five (5) subjects in the Zambian School Certificate or Cambridge Overseas School Certificate. The five ‘O’ Level credits or better should include English and Mathematics.
- Qualifications other than the Zambian School Certificate or Cambridge Overseas School Certificate or the General Certificate of Education may be accepted provided they are approved as equivalent by the Senate and Examinations Council of Zambia.
- An undergraduate degree in ICT/Computing or Engineering from a recognized university or other approved institutions.
- Applicants who do not meet the admission requirement of having an undergraduate degree in ICT/Computing or related fields will be required to take prerequisite courses in computing in their first semester. These courses do not apply towards the degree plan. However, a relevant certificate will be issued. This implies that the award of the MSc DS degree in such a case shall be completed in not less than 24 months (4 semesters) and not more than 36 months (6 semesters).
