Master of Science in Cyber Security

INTRODUCTION

The Master of Science in Cyber Security programme (MSc CYS) is a mature programme that is offered by a growing number of IT universities and schools. The programme is intended for professionals who wish to broaden and deepen their understanding of cyber security. The program provides a unique opportunity to develop leading-edge in-depth knowledge in the area of security technologies and practices. This program is especially designed to tackle the cyber security challenges not only in the Zambian ICT industry but Africa as a whole, and the world at large.  The program is rooted in the belief that theory and research must translate into real-world solutions and an accessible path to career advancement. The courses offered are there to equip students with skills that will be very valuable in solving security challenges currently being faced in the industry. Students who complete the master’s degree in Cyber Security will be able to: identify and describe the various threats to the security, analyse models and practices for managing security; develop, evaluate, implement and manage cyber security solutions for complex systems, organisations, platforms communication channels, and data, based on industry-accepted standards and best practice. The medium of instruction shall be English.

AIM: The aim of this programme is to produce cyber security graduates with the necessary information and system security skills and competences to meet the ever-growing cyber security needs of Zambia and the SADC region at large both in industry and academia.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

To qualify for admission to the Master of Science in Cyber Security programme applicants must hold:

       i.          Passes at credit level (1-5) in at least five (5) subjects in the Zambian School Certificate or Cambridge Overseas School Certificate.  The five ‘O’ Level credits or better should include English and Mathematics.

     ii.          Qualifications other than the Zambian School Certificate or Cambridge Overseas School Certificate or the General Certificate of Education may be accepted provided they are approved as equivalent by the Senate and Examinations Council of Zambia.

    iii.          An undergraduate degree in ICT/Computing or Engineering from a recognized university or other approved institutions.

DURATION OF STUDY

The course of study for the award of the MSc CYS degree shall be completed in a period of not less than 18 months and not more than 36 months (3years).
