Biography
Dr. Chimanga Kashale is the Head of the Department of Computer Science at ZCAS University, Zambia, within the School of Computing, Technology and Applied Sciences. He is an academic, researcher and Information Technology professional with more than ten years of experience in higher education, teaching, research, academic leadership and ICT consultancy. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from ZCAS University, an MSc in Computer Science from the Copperbelt University, a BSc in Information Technology and a Diploma in Information Technology, together with a Certificate in Teaching Methodology.
His research applies Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) and emerging technologies to environmental, industrial and socioeconomic challenges. His recent work centres on intelligent environmental monitoring, predictive analytics and energy-aware, fault-tolerant IoT systems, notably AI-enabled sensing of heavy-metal contamination in mining-impacted aquaculture environments in Zambia. Earlier work addresses ICT for climate-change adaptation among small-scale farmers, digital migration, renewable-energy demand management and computing education.
Alongside his work at ZCAS University, Dr. Kashale served as a Lecturer at the Copperbelt University (2018 – 2022), where he also headed the ICT Department and coordinated research and innovation at the Kapasa Makasa Campus. He reviews for IEEE journals and the Zambia ICT Journal, has judged national ICT innovation initiatives, supervises postgraduate research and collaborates with international research partners. He is a member of IEEE, ACM and ICTAZ.
