INTRODUCTION
The economy of the 21st Century is dependent on utilization of Information Communication Technology (ICT) effectively which demands specialized experts in this field. The Doctor of Philosophy in Information Systems (Ph.D. IS) by research and thesis is presented to bridge the gap in information systems knowledge and increase human resources needed to develop home grown ICT solutions. The Information Systems doctoral programme prepares students with skills to advance applied research in evidence-based, human-centered and secure information system practice. Upon completion of the PhD programme, students will be at the forefront of knowledge in one or several academic areas of Information Science. The students should be able to evaluate different methods in information science and develop new knowledge, new theories and new methods in the subject area. In addition, the program prepares doctoral students whose research will advance knowledge in evidence-based practices needed to educate future information system professionals at undergraduate, and graduate levels.
AIM: The aim of the Ph.D. in Information Systems by research and thesis is to develop scholars who are able to independently carry out scholarly work in Information Systems in the ICT industry and contribute to addressing current and future challenges of the industry by applying advanced research methodologies as well as having a career in academia.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
Applicants should have a:
- Masters’ Degree in computer science or any related field from a recognized university or other institutions approved by the Senate and/or HEA.
- Bachelors’ Degree in computer science or any related field from a recognized university or other institutions approved by Senate and/or HEA.
- School Certificate with 5 credits or better including English and Mathematics.
- Submission of a research proposal in the area of interest.
DURATION OF STUDY
The course of study for the award of the PhD in Information Systems degree by research and thesis is at least three (3) years and not more than six (6) years from the date of first registration.
